Uncompromising quality and safety are also top priorities for S+S accessories. That is why we use either nickel-plated brass or stainless steel for the metal immersion sleeves of our duct sensors. Brass consists mainly of copper and zinc, which give the alloy good formability and machinability, mechanical strength, heat resistance and electrical conductivity.
In contrast to conventional products on the market, however, our brass immersion sleeves have an additional protective nickel coating. This ensures their permanent resistance to corrosion in less aggressive media, from air and water to alkalis and diluted acids. At the same time, the nickel layer prevents components of heat conducting pastes from dissolving the copper and causing pitting.
Immersion sleeves made of stainless steel offer the highest level of corrosion protection. We have opted for VA 1.4571 or AISI 316 Ti, a particularly high-quality material that contains titanium in addition to chromium, nickel and molybdenum. The alloy has proven itself particularly well in the construction of chemical apparatus and instruments, in exhaust gas treatment and waste water treatment. Its corrosion resistance also includes chlorides or salts and stronger acids, including hydrochloric acid (HCl).
